I have been photographing dogs at various places on various occasions within the last year. Once I decided to have my exhibition about dogs; I wanted to include the shelter dogs who are in need of a good home and also the working dogs who serve and protect. I got in touch with Wilmington Police Department K-9 unit. I wanted to bring attention to the K-9 dogs and their handlers who risk their lives to serve and protect the society. Head of the unit Chris Vitale welcomed the idea and was very helpful arranging couple of photo shoots with the unit. I thank each one of them for their cooperation. Then, I got in touch with the local SPCA and started photographing their dogs and that’s when the idea of volunteering to do the pet profile photos surfaced. I wanted focus on the shelter dogs to emphasize the importance of “don’t shop adopt”.
Using my art to make a difference in the society we live in is important and very rewarding.
I compiled a great collection of dog photos and will have my exhibition titled My Human & I opening on Friday May 6th, 2010 [reception at 5:00 - 7:00 pm] at the Mezzanine Gallery located at Carvel State Building, 820 N French St., Wilmington, DE 19801. I hope you stop by to see my work
