Bellapais - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus
Bellapais is a pretty village set high in the Five Finger Mountains located in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. It is about four miles from the town of Kyrenia. The village was the home for some years to famous British author Lawrence Durrell, who wrote about life in Cyprus in his book Bitter Lemons.
Its most famous site is the Bellapais Monastery, sometimes called as the Bellapais Abbey, built by monks of the Premonstratensian order in the 13th century. It is a fine example of Gothic architecture of the Lusignan Period.
